hp_gen_ch's January Challenge is The Founders!

Salazar Slytherin, Godric Gryffindor, Rowena Ravenclaw, Helga Hufflepuff. Little to nothing is known about them in canon -- and that's one of the things genfic is good for: to flesh out the sketchier areas of canon. Your task this month is to write a genfic on the subject of one or more of the Founders of Hogwarts. You can go historical, taking us back to when the school was first created and during its early years. You can set your fic at another point in the Harry Potter timeline, all the way up to the current canon timeline -- anything goes, as long as your story sheds light on the Founders -- their motivations, their personalities, their daily lives, etc.

"Back to School" Challenge
We had three lovely fics submitted for this challenge:

• Ghost Story (Myrtle, G) by gm_weasley -- In which Myrtle decides what to do with her life death.


• Into a Cage of Lions (Neville, PG) by lyras -- Someone seems to have funny ideas about who's going to be head boy at Hogwarts next year.


• A Talisman toward Silver and Blue (Daphne Greengrass, PG-13) by oolsock -- Daphne learns that she is her own mistress before returning to Hogwarts as a student.

hp_gen_ch's October Challenge is "Missing Hallowe'en"!

From the Lexicon:

October 31, [1981/Y1] - Defeat of Voldemort; James and Lily Potter are killed.
October 31, [1991/Y11] - The Halloween Feast at Hogwarts is interrupted by a mountain troll. Ron, Harry, and Hermione become friends.
October 31, [1992/Y12] - After the Halloween Feast and Nearly Headless Nick's 500th Deathday party, Harry discovers the Basilisk's first victim: Mrs. Norris.
October 31, [1993/Y13] - Sirius Black breaks into Hogwarts and slashes the Fat Lady in an attempt to find Pettigrew.
October 31, [1994/Y14] - The Goblet of Fire selects the champions for the Triwizard Tournament -- Viktor Krum, Fleur Delacour, Cedric Diggory, and, to everyone's surprise, Harry Potter.

Despite this seeming pattern of dramatic events falling on Hallowe'en in the first four books, nothing of note seems to happen on this day in the fifth and sixth books. Well, at least it doesn't seem to happen to Harry. :) Your task for this month's challenge is write a story about a dramatic event that occurred on Hallowe'en during the year of Order of the Phoenix or Half-Blood Prince. It doesn't have to be about Harry; any character is fair game. The event doesn't need to be life-changing or emotionally scarring, but it does need to fit into existing canon.
